The Phoenix Mercury showcased their resilience and skill during the 2020 season, achieving remarkable victories against formidable teams such as the Las Vegas Aces and the Washington Mystics, which ultimately secured them a spot in the playoffs.
Throughout the season, the Mercury demonstrated outstanding performance across various matchups, triumphing over teams from both the Eastern and Western Conferences. Notably, they engaged in several thrilling series that resulted in ties, one of which was a competitive face-off against the Indiana Fever.
The series kicked off with a challenging loss for the Mercury, as they fell to the Fever with a score of 106-100. At the conclusion of the season, Indiana wrapped up with a disappointing record of 6-16, marking their fourth consecutive year without a playoff appearance. Unfortunately for the Fever, this streak continued for three more seasons, creating a challenging period for the franchise. However, in 2024, they finally broke through by reaching the playoffs.
On the other hand, the Mercury celebrated their eighth consecutive season of playoff participation, ending the year with a commendable 13-9 record. They faced off against the Mystics and the Minnesota Lynx in the postseason, achieving victory over the Mystics but falling to the Lynx. Despite the setback, the 2020 season was seen as a positive chapter for the Mercury, setting the stage for an even brighter upcoming season.
