Tesla's 2026 Model Y is now available on the company's site, offering a new option: a seven-seat version. This feature, priced at $2,500, is exclusive to the Premium All-Wheel-Drive Long Range model. Tesla first hinted at this option last year, promising seating for up to seven and ample storage space. However, the new seats seem designed primarily for children, as they provide limited legroom, according to images on Tesla's configurator. The seven-seat interior features fold-flat second- and third-row seats, though it's unclear if they fold down electrically like the second row. Tesla's move comes as the company faces increased competition, especially in the crossover/SUV category, and has experienced another sales decline in the last quarter. This seven-seat option was previously available in the US for a short time before the model was refreshed early last year, and has since been limited to five seats. Tesla launched a six-seat 'Model YL' version in China in August 2025, which includes a six-inch wheelbase extension not present in the US model. Elon Musk has indicated that this model might not make its way to the US market until late 2026 or potentially never. Otherwise, changes to the Model Y lineup are minor, focusing on the Premium version. These include a 20-inch dark-grey 'Helix' wheel option, a new black headliner, a larger 16-inch high-resolution display, and darker rear badging.
